For riders in the 150km individual ride there will be the option to give us Special Needs Bags & these can be placed on either side of the road (or even both sides if you’d like!) at the turn around point for the 100km riders in Glorit. Bags will need to be labelled either 67km or 117km as this relates to the distance covered at these points by the 150km competitors.
Extra water bottles/food/clothing may be items you wish to include & empty plastic bags for this purpose will be available at registration.
Please hand these bags to us (clearly labelled 67km or 117km) @ registration or on event morning and we will mark with your race number & place on the course. The bags will be clearly laid out for you but it is your own responsibility to collect, although uncollected bags will be returned to the finish area. Please do not put any valuables in these bags.

The 150km course is aimed at riders who want more of a challenge than the 100km course or for a group of cyclists who want to adopt the team approach and compete in the relay.
The 100km & 150km is a most scenic route in Auckland as you travel up beside the Kaipara harbour you get massively stunning water and rural views. A comprehensive traffic management plan in place for the event coupled with lots of course marshals will enable safe riding on this stretch of road for the day.
The 100km & 150km course will start at Parakai Domain and loop down to Kumeu on SH16, around through Old North rd and Peak Rd up to Kaukapakapa, then on up SH16. The 100km will turn around at Glorit (approx 22km up the Kaipara coast), and the 150km will go all the way to Wellsford, returning down SH16 to Helensville and finally finishing at the Parakai Domain.
The 55km course traverses the same course as the 100 and 150 course, through to Kaukapakapa, but then turns left at the junction at SH16, and returns directly to Parakai along the section common to all riders. Both the 100km and 55km have a team of 4 riding together category.
The team Relay option, which is available on the 150km course only, will see teams of two or three cyclists riding the 150km course in three stages.
Stage 1 – 45km - Start at Parakai Domain and ride to the intersection of Peak Rd and SH16. Transition on Peak Rd by the church parking area
Stage 2 – 46km - from Peak Rd turn R and head north to Wellsford turn around on SH16 & Davies Rd. Transition on corner of davies rd in large parking area.
Stage 3 – 59km – from the turn around at Davies Rd, head south on SH16 all the way back thru Helensville and R into Parkhurst rd to finish at the Parakai Domain.
The 25km is an out and back course along SH16 to Kaukapakapa, via Helensville. This has gentle rolling hills and flat sections and would suit a relatively novice rider.
The Auckland Cycle Challenge will remain being a major fundraiser for the North Harbour Tri Club.

You need take responsibility for your riding actions whilst on the course and not assume that any special conditions are afforded you because you are in an organised event.
There are four one lane bridges on the course where the road signs indicate you must give way to oncoming traffic. The 100km and 150km riders will be required to turn right at the appropriate turn-around points – care must be taken to avoid turning in front of on coming traffic and traffic coming from behind, including cyclists.

Large flat section to start moving into slightly rolling terrain with a short sharp ascent mid section.
This section quickly takes you through Kaukapkapa and into your first climb. The terrain from there is hilly with intermittent short steeper climbs and a technical descent at about 39km.
There is a short warm-up before you begin climbing, this climb is steep in places but consistently heads up. The return journey is one of hills, either up or down until you get past the 100km turn around where the hills flatten out slowly to kaukapaka and then it is relatively flat all the way back to Parakai.
Return to top of page |
Spectators and support vehicles are not allowed to follow their riders along the course. Please be very conscious of all riders. The roads are very narrow along the course, particularly between Kaukapakapa and Wellsford. Under no circumstances should cyclists be supported from moving vehicles. This will result in disqualification.
