Individual Entrants:
Picked up from the event base on the day of the event.  We recommend checking into this area at least 45 minutes prior to your scheduled start time.

Series Entrants:
Picked up from the event base on the morning of race 1.  Long course entrant race packs will need to be picked up by 8.30am.  Mid course entrant race packs need to be picked up by 9.30am.  Short course entrant race packs need to be picked up by 10.00am. 

If you are changing courses (up or down) you need to be issued with a different colour race number at registration.

Course Overview:
 

First 1km is a gradual uphill on gravel forestry road.  After that you hit the best tracks riverhead has to offer!  This is a moderately difficult undulating course through the forest.  Terrain varies from mud to dusty dirt, many pine needles and a little gorse if you tend to go off track.

Course Overview

The first 3.5km is on gravel forestry road and pops in and out of tracks along the way.  This should split the field well before you get into the real good stuff.  You start the trails with a nice fast downhill have the remainder of the run on fantastic trail!  The course is undulating and for most of the run isn’t too difficult.  There is however one real gut buster on this course at about the 7km mark which will keep your calves and quads in check.  From there it is a nice downhill and back to the glorious undulation that is Riverhead.

Course Overview

XTERRA Auckland trail run series The first 3.5km is on gravel forestry road and pops in and out of tracks along the way.  This should split the field well before you get into the real good stuff.  You start the trails with a nice fast downhill and will get back onto gravel from the drink station at the 6.5km mark.  Another 200m of gravel and you hit your next undulating trail for a couple of km.

Then you are back onto the gravel and head up Anzac road for another couple on km.  Back into the tracks and you have an open downhill section flanked on both sides by some friendly Toitoi and gorse.  Over a couple of dodgy little bridges and you are into an awesome flat fast section of the course.  The flat section continues with some more gravel on Campbell Road.  There will be a drink station as you turn left off Campbell Rd and get off the gravel for the last time!  It’s all awesome undulating trails for the next 7km to the finish.

Course Markings
Course MarkingsIt wouldn’t be a Total Sport event unless you were following hanging white tape and red arrows on a white corflute backing.  While course are well marked you will still need to keep your eyes open out there. 

We need to stress that you need to stick to the trail you are on unless you are directed off by an arrow! 

Key intersections will be clearly marked to make life easy for you!

Course Safety
We strongly recommend that all competitors come to these events sensibly prepared as some of these courses are very tough and weather conditions can be extremely changeable. 

We recommend running with a camelbak loaded with up to 2L of water and/or Balance along with Balance squeezy’s and other nutritional nibbles. 

You can expect to be away from base for a decent period of time at these events!  While event medics will be at each event & competitors may encounter on course marshals with first aid on them it also pays to be safety conscious and carry items like a basic first aid kit, cell phone, whistle and additional warm clothing.

Head to the end of the North Western Motorway. Turn left and then travel right thru the round-a-bout onto SH16. About 5 minutes drive up SH16 you will turn right onto Old North Road.

Go straight through the next round-a-bout and after a few twists and turns you will come to Ararimu Valley Rd on your right. Travel along Ararimu Valley Rd until you reach Barlow Rd on your right.

Allow 40 - 50 minutes driving time from central Auckland.
 
Parking
There is very limited parking at the venue so when at all possible please CARPOOL! It’s better for the environment and everyone involved.

There will be parking in the main picnic Area just off Barlow road.  There will be marshals helping you park, please listen and be nice to them as we need to keep certain areas in the Picnic area clear.

Arrive early for your event to ensure you can park and get to your event on time.

There will also be a small amount of parking just before the entry gate on Barlow road.
